Project Overview

The Excelsior was a long-established hotel on Hong Kong Island’s Causeway Bay waterfront, a landmark property known for its harbour outlook and busy mix of corporate and leisure guests. Interiors of this scale, spanning numerous guest floors and extensive public areas, call for finishes that balance refined presentation with the resilience expected of a major city hotel. Across hundreds of rooms and large shared spaces, the choice of wall finish had real consequences for both appearance and ongoing maintenance.

Goodrich Global supplied Vycon wallcovering from J Josephson for this project.

Goodrich Specification

The specification used Vycon wallcovering from J Josephson, a commercial vinyl wallcovering range valued for its durability and breadth of finishes. In guest rooms and shared circulation areas, a robust wallcovering of this kind resists daily wear, cleans readily and maintains a uniform, hospitality-grade appearance across large surface areas.

Vycon’s range of textures and tones gave the design team flexibility to differentiate spaces while keeping a coherent material language throughout the hotel, an important consideration in a property of this footprint. The hard-wearing vinyl construction also absorbs the knocks of luggage and dense foot traffic and stands up to a frequent cleaning programme over a long service life.

Project Outcome

The outcome is wall surfaces that combine a considered aesthetic with practical longevity in a high-occupancy hotel, supporting both guest comfort and efficient upkeep. By holding their appearance across many floors and busy public areas, the finishes helped the hotel maintain a consistent standard at scale. Goodrich Global’s depth of hospitality wallcovering supply across Hong Kong gives designers a dependable source for hard-wearing, design-forward materials at the scale large hotels require.
