Singapore University of Technology, Singapore & Design
Project Overview
The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) is one of Singapore’s autonomous universities and a focal point for technology and design pedagogy in the region. SUTD’s interior specification combines technology-led pedagogical models, including collaborative project rooms, flexible studio space and computer-equipped classrooms, with the materials and acoustics appropriate to a research-and-design-focused institution.
Goodrich Global supplied carpet tile across multiple zones of the campus.
Goodrich Specification
Carpet tile was specified for the combination of acoustic comfort, durability under student traffic, and design-language flexibility. SUTD’s collaborative-pedagogy model means furniture moves frequently, and modular carpet tile supports that operational reality without the complications of broadloom installation, allowing damaged or soiled tiles to be swapped individually rather than relaying whole floors.
The fibres absorb footfall and conversation across busy studios and project rooms, reducing reverberation where students work in groups and helping concentration in shared, open settings. The Goodrich carpet tile specification carries Singapore Green Building Product Certification (SGBC) credentials, supporting the university’s broader sustainability documentation, and pattern and colour selection were coordinated with SUTD’s interior design language across the specified zones.
Project Outcome
The SUTD carpet tile installation is in operational service across the campus, delivering the acoustic calm and hard-wearing performance that active teaching and studio spaces require. Its modular format keeps long-term maintenance efficient, letting the facilities team refresh high-wear areas locally as the campus evolves.
The project demonstrates Goodrich’s capability to support tertiary research-and-design institutions with specifications that align to both pedagogical and sustainability requirements, backed by specification guidance for education interiors across Singapore.
